COLD & FLU NATURAL HOME CARE - PART 1

COLD & FLU NATURAL HOME CARE • PART 1
This years Flu outbreak is said to be one of the worst in many years. Colds and Flu have always been the bane of humankind. Many epidemics have stricken modern man. One such epidemic so decimated the world wide population, it”s toll, when ended, took more lives then were lost in World War 1.
25 % of the USA population was afflicted. This epidemic was the Influenza Pandemic of 1918. It is considered to be a great disaster in global history.
My Grandmother fell ill with this Pandemic of 1918.  At this time in her life, she was pregnant and had several small children to care for, the entire household became quite ill.
When the Pandemic, which had spread globally, finally ended, 50 million had perished.
I am here to tell the tale because My Grandmother was Not among the dead, nor was any member of our family.  Her unborn child came into the world healthy and strong.
Why did no one in our family die of the Flu? One possible factor in her recovery was that she knew the ways of Herbal Health Remedies brought from the traditional culture she was born into. She was well prepared in the solid principles of Natural Home Care.
We have forgotten the simple home remedies that were once commonplace. Most people go straight to OTC’s (over the counter preparations) and Antibiotics for the sought after quick cure in a pill.
Antibiotics were never meant to be the first line of defense for common colds and flu. They are intended for secondary bacterial infections that lead to serious life threatening conditions such as pneumonia.
Antibiotics are no longer as effective in fighting infection as they once were (watch for this topic in future articles). Even Alec Flemming, the discoverer of penicillin, warned against misuse of antibiotics.
In 2011 there were 1,532 deaths caused by influenza. but a staggering number of Deaths from pneumonia, 52,136. These deaths were attributed to secondary bacterial infections that started with the flu.
Wether you have had a flu shot or not , you can still get the Flu. The Flu Vaccine is not protection against all flu viruses and does not provide lifelong protection. The shot it is a calculated guess, as to each year’s prevalent viral strains. A cocktail of the possible flu virus.
Some people especially, this year have reported Flu symptoms after receiving the shot. Thus it is still important to be prepared with home care methods to take care of the symptoms of the flu, reserving antibiotic treatment for the secondary lower respiratory infections as your Doctor prescribes.
As we see from the above statistics, most healthy people survive typical flu symptoms. Problems arise when the condition progresses into more serious conditions. So what can we do ourselves?  Bed rest and undisturbed sleep is most important. Herbal Teas, Aromatherapy and vitamin supplements can all support immunity. Early home care is important in order to support the body’s natural defense systems. Our own immunity is still the best defense from serious infection.
